After he suggested firing them, Trump's top political advisers donated their fees for their efforts on behalf of the pro-Russian administration.
James Blair and Chris LaCivita, two of Trump's top political advisers, have given President Donald Trump's presidential library money they earned earlier this month in the Balkans on behalf of a pro-Russian regime.
"Yes, we did donate our entire fee. I adore the President and will always be appreciative of the chances he has given me. It is a pleasure for me to help preserve his tremendous legacy! The New York Post was the first to report on the gifts, and Blair responded with a post on X.
LaCivita added, "Preserving the legacy and story of @realDonaldTrump is an honor and a no brainer!," seemingly confirming the gift to Trump's library.
Trump declared earlier this month that if Blair and LaCivita's outside employment proved to be a conflict of interest, he would terminate them as political advisers.
Like all consultants in Washington, D.C., they are permitted to work for others. I'm not sure who else they work for, but I'll ask them after some thought, and if there's a problem, I'll fire them right away! At the moment, Trump wrote.
The two visited the Balkans prior to the nation's elections, according to the New York Times.
According to the Times, Blair and LaCivita "were paid hundreds of thousands of dollars each through a Washington-based law firm that was retained by Republika Srpska's government to provide counsel on voting issues."
It's unknown how much was donated. CNN has requested reaction from the White House.
According to a seasoned Republican who has contact with the president, CNN earlier reported that Trump was "pissed" by the Times piece.
Blair is in charge of MAGA Inc., Trump's super PAC, and has been assigned to oversee the president's midterm election strategy. LaCivita works with MAGA Inc. as a senior adviser.
